Addressing a press conference at PDMA Head Office regarding monsoon rains and possible flood situation, DG PDMA Umar Abbas Mela said that during the recent monsoon rains, the highest rainfall was recorded in Lahore, Gujranwala and Rawalpindi divisions, while significant rainfall was also recorded in Narowal, Jhelum and Gujarat. He said that the overall flood situation in the province is normal at present. The water flow in the Ravi and Sutlej rivers is also normal. The crack near the Nala Dik and Narowal was immediately closed, while the crack in the dam in Sheikhupura was also repaired in time and the situation was brought under control. DG PDMA said that last year, modern machinery was acquired under the "Punjab Development Program", while about 1,000 new machines were also provided for WASA, due to which there has been a significant improvement in the drainage system. Due to this effective preparation, three times less water has accumulated this year compared to last year. He further said that the cleaning of major drains was completed before the start of the monsoon season. DG PDMA appealed to the citizens to take special care of cleanliness around them, avoid living in dilapidated and dilapidated buildings, keep a safe distance from electric wires and poles, and avoid bathing in rivers and drains or going unnecessarily. He said that any emergency or accident should be reported immediately to Rescue 1122. He added that the relevant institutions are taking necessary steps even where the electricity system is old. Populations have been shifted from the river beds and the work of construction and strengthening of protective embankments along the rivers is also underway. Finally, the DG PDMA expressed the resolve that as per the instructions of the Chief Minister of Punjab, all the relevant institutions are fully alert and active for the protection of life and property of the people, effective drainage and timely response to possible flood situations.
