In the light of the orders of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, steps have been taken to prevent river erosion in Layyah. On the instructions of the Chief Minister Punjab, Director General Provincial Disaster Management Authority Saif Anwar Jappa reached Village Samra Nasheb, Basti Kinjal Layyah. Deputy Commissioner Asif Ali Dogar, former MPA Abdul Shakoor Swag, Chief Engineer Anhar Sargodha Sadaqat Latif, Superintending Engineer Bhakkar Adnan Amjad, Resident Engineer Mansoor Ahmed, Action Anhar Hafeez Ahmed and Director Operations PDMA Nisar Ahmed were also with him. DG PDMA Saif Anwar Jappa visited the affected area Samra Nasheb and inspected the heavy machinery, stones and ongoing work. On this occasion, he was briefed by the River Department about the river erosion and the ongoing measures. DG Saif Anwar Jappa, while talking to the residents of the area, said that on the orders of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, work has been started immediately to stop the erosion. The Punjab government, district administration and PDMA stand with the people in this hour of grief. He said that immediate steps are being taken to prevent further damage to the river erosion, while full efforts will be made to construct a flood protection dam for the protection of the area and residents and a permanent solution to the problem. He said that other viable options will also be implemented to divert the water. DG PDMA directed all the relevant departments to work for the prevention of river erosion through mutual cooperation and coordination, to make every possible effort to save the population and infrastructure and to continue rescue and relief operations in the affected area. He also directed to submit daily reports on the ongoing measures for river erosion. The DG PDMA said that on the instructions of the Chief Minister of Punjab, flood relief camps have been provided in the affected areas and provision of all basic facilities to the victims will be ensured. He also directed to send food hampers to the victims.
