Ms. Anita Hirsch, Country Director of the World Food Programme (WFP) Pakistan, met with DG PDMA Punjab Muhammad Saif Anwer Jappa. DG PDMA Muhammad Saif Anwer Jappa welcomed the WFP delegation. Accompanying the WFP Country Director were Dr. Amara Khan, Head of the Punjab Office, and other relevant officials. During the meeting, detailed discussions were held regarding disaster management in Punjab, handling emergency situations, preparedness for natural disasters, and timely emergency response.
DG PDMA Muhammad Saif Anwer Jappa briefed the delegation on the measures taken in Punjab regarding disaster preparedness, emergency response, and the provision of relief and essential assistance to disaster-affected populations. The meeting also covered potential risks arising from climate change, the protection of vulnerable communities, disaster risk management, and the promotion of mutual cooperation to enhance resilience across the province. During the meeting, a commitment was expressed to further enhance the ongoing collaboration between the PDMA and the World Food Programme (WFP) and to continue joint efforts aimed at strengthening future disaster management capabilities. According to a PDMA spokesperson, the meeting also reviewed matters concerning the enhancement of future disaster response capacity, ensuring timely responses, and providing effective assistance to affected populations. The World Food Programme reiterated its resolve to continue cooperating with the Punjab government in the field of disaster management.
Director General PDMA Muhammad Saif Anwer Jappa stated that effective coordination and a unified strategy among relevant agencies are crucial for managing disasters. In line with the directives of the Chief Minister of Punjab, measures are being taken to further strengthen preparedness and ensure a timely response to potential natural disaster threats. DG PDMA Muhammad Saif Anwer Jappa emphasized that providing timely relief and essential assistance to affected populations remains a top priority for the PDMA.
