The 8th of October reminds us of the devastating earthquake of 2005 that wreaked havoc in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other parts of the country. It brings to our memories countless human miseries and the huge loss of lives, property and infrastructure. The day therefore is an occasion to express solidarity with all those families who suffered this calamity and many of them still bear the scars of that horrific tragedy on their minds and bodies. The observance of this day as “National Disaster Awareness Day” is also an occasion to reiterate our commitment to make greater efforts for preparing ourselves to face all such adversities. In consonance with the significance of the occasion, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab, in collaboration with Rescue 1122, Civil Defence, School Education Department, District Administration Lahore and other relevant stakeholders has organized disaster awareness walk/rally from Nasir Bagh to Town Hall.
