Provincial Health Minister and Chairman of the Cabinet Committee on Disaster Management, Khawaja Salman Rafique, visited the Provincial Emergency Center at the PDMA headquarters. During the visit, PDMA Director General Muhammad Saif Anwer Jappa briefed the Provincial Minister on the latest situation regarding the monsoon season and river water flows, as well as the measures being undertaken by the PDMA.
Provincial Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique stated that, in line with the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, effective measures are being taken to safeguard Punjab against floods and water-related hazards. He noted that water flow in Punjab's rivers is currently normal, while the provincial administration remains fully prepared to handle any emergency situations.
Provincial Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique mentioned that rescue agencies have been equipped with modern machinery at a cost of billions of rupees, and pre- and post-disaster mechanisms are being further strengthened. These measures will enhance the ability to effectively mitigate the risks posed by floods and other water-related threats.
The Provincial Minister added that the PDMA's preparedness this year is significantly better than last year. Relevant agencies are fully mobilized to tackle the monsoon and potential flood situations through mutual coordination and effective strategies.
Speaking on the occasion, PDMA DG Muhammad Saif Anwer Jappa stated that the monsoon season and river water flows are being continuously monitored. Coordination with all relevant agencies is being ensured to facilitate timely action in the event of an emergency. The PDMA DG reported that Tarbela Dam is filled to 100 percent capacity, while Mangla Dam is at 78 percent capacity. Continuous monitoring of the situation regarding rivers and dams is underway, and the PDMA's provincial emergency center remains operational around the clock to address any potential threat.
